PGI Chandigarh to conduct entrance test for MD/MS courses on 11 November

September 22, 2012

The union health ministry has instructed the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh to conduct the entrance test for the postgraduate MD/MS courses on 11 November, while the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi will continue with its previous schedule of 18 November.

This has come as relief to the doctors who were in a dilemma on where to apply for the various postgraduate specialties. Both the premier medical institutes — AIIMS and PGIMER — had scheduled their entrance examinations for admission to MD/MS courses on November 18, putting a lot of candidates in a fix.

According to Dr R C Deka, director, AIIMS New Delhi, he had explained his apprehensions to the ministry about his institute’s inability to make any amendments for the examination. “We have five examination centres in Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Guwahati. And to change dates in all these assigned centres is not feasible. PGI has its centre located in Chandigarh alone,” said Dr Deka to PG Times.
